3 Steps to Create a Thriving Relationship with Money

I think sometimes people feel guilty for caring about money (which is super important as a biz owner!) because they think it makes them greedy. The truth is, caring about money won’t make you greedy, destroy your priorities, or turn you into a money monster.
But money can help you go on more vacations, send your kids to better schools, invest back into your business, take care of your health, and so much more.

Money is a tool that YOU use, not a vice that uses you.

The thoughts we consistently think are just as impactful as the actions we consistently take, because what we believe shows up in our lives!
Let’s correct this bullshit once and for all: being a business owner who cares about income doesn’t make you a bad person. You will never be less of a thoughtful, giving, kind-hearted person because you make money. Your income doesn’t define your worth, but it does give you a level of security, freedom, and comfort.
We need to get comfortable with money, work on our relationship with money, and set money goals that drive our business forward.
Here are the 3 steps to implement to begin a thriving relationship with money. (more…)

Want to change your reality? Change your environment.

Who we surround ourselves with matters.
What I mean by this is that we’re influenced – for better or worse! – by the relationships we keep in both business and life. You’ve probably heard of the quote from Jim Rohn that says we’re the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. With this, he’s really just saying that we start to think and act like the people around us are thinking and acting.
This can be incredibly detrimental OR incredibly helpful.
Here’s what I mean! (more…)

What to do if you’re not seeing results in your business

Do you ever feel like you’re so close, but not yet actually at the success you want? Or, do you ever feel like you’re doing ALL the things and just hoping – maybe silently and desperately praying – that something will stick?
If so, then here’s a little something you might not yet know. Success doesn’t always come from action. Success doesn’t always look like action – result – action – result.
I know, this is an annoying one to hear, right? Still grinds my gears a little too, but it’s true. In fact, when we get ATTACHED to looking at the actions we take in this way, we BLOCK our power and our energy. We block the exact power and energy that attracts our desires in the first place.
This means that when we bank on taking an action and experiencing a particular result, we are less likely to actually receive that result.
Now, this doesn’t mean we don’t have goals and desired outcomes. It doesn’t mean we don’t take action in an effort to meet our goals and desired outcomes. Instead, it means we’re not just taking action to immediately hit those goals. In fact, it means we’re SO committed to those goals that we’re going to keep showing up while they show up (and heck, maybe even enjoy the process).
Here’s what it actually takes to create our desired success – from mindset to strategy to execution! (more…)

5 Ways Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable Has Helped Me Achieve Major Success

There’s a lot of talk in the entrepreneurial space that you should only do things in your business from a place of “flow” and “ease”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about both of those things, but you can still have ease (which ironically is different than EASY) and you can still have flow (which ironically is NOT the opposite of hustle) WHILE showing up daily and creating momentum and results in your business.
Yet, this requires a willingness to get comfortable being uncomfortable. To decide that not everything has to feel “amazing” in order to get it done. To recognize that many things that are new WILL be uncomfortable at the beginning.
The quicker you can get comfortable in the uncomfortable, the quicker you’ll see results in your business. How do I know? Let me share with you the 5 ways that getting comfortable being uncomfortable has helped me achieve major success as an entrepreneur…

Sometimes I Hate The Coaching Industry…

Yeah, we’re about to get REALLY real.
The truth is, I’ve felt this way on and off for awhile, but it wasn’t until I went to dinner with a fellow entrepreneur last weekend who I told I was going through a “I hate the coaching industry” phase and she hugged me and nodded in TOTAL agreement, offering “Girl, I get it. Happens to me all the time”, and then one of my own clients mentioned her occasional disillusionment with the coaching space that I KNEW I needed to talk about it.
So #letsgetreal
Sometimes I seriously hate the coaching industry.
Sometimes I feel like everyone is full of crap.
Sometimes I feel like we’re SO obsessed with results but NOT obsessed (or transparent) with what goes on to get them.
Sometimes I feel like there’s WAY too much pressure on coaches to create results and sometimes I feel like there’s not ENOUGH.
Sometimes I feel like it’s all a little multi-level-marketing-ish.
Sometimes I feel like there are A LOT of people not meant to be entrepreneurs.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m one of them.
*hides head under covers and considers deleting post*
But here’s the truth…

9 Lessons from A Lit Up Partnership

Over the past 6 months, I ran a process called A Lit Up Partnership, where I (along with 4 other coaches) worked with clients, not for a set payment, but for 15% of the revenue they generate in our work together over 6 months.
It was a really cool and interesting experiment that allowed us to look at a new business model and learn a ton along the way.
I believe in breaking down barriers, being innovative, and creating opportunity in this industry. A Lit Up Partnership was created around those beliefs, and the results were mind-blowing!
That’s why I’m so excited to be re-launching A Lit Up Partnership and opening one spot to start in January. (Click here to learn more!) To celebrate, I’ve been reflecting on all the lessons that came out of the first round of partners.
Here are 9 of the biggest lessons I learned through this process AND how you can apply them to your own business!

How leading with value can create better results in your business

We’re used to asking questions like:

  • How can I add 1,000 people to my list?
  • How can I make 10K per month?
  • How can I sign 6 new clients?

Instead, one thing that I learned from the incredible Margaret Lynch is to ask questions that are based around giving VALUE. In other words:

  • How can I give value to 1,000 new people?
  • How can I give 10k worth of value per month?
  • How can I give 6 new people a life + business changing experience?

That is exactly where the challenges, giveaways, etc. I do in my business come from… asking how can I give more value, not how can I get XYZ!

The Problem With Comparing Your Current Biz to Your Future Biz

It can be SO tempting to label ourselves a failure when we have a desire we haven’t met yet.
I think it can be ESPECIALLY tempting to do this as entrepreneurs.
But when we start to enjoy the process, give ourselves credit for what we have achieved, and dream about the future with desire and excitement rather than feelings of failure and overwhelm … everything can shift.
For me personally I learned this the hard way. I was always working toward something and was never happy until I got there.
I got one master’s degree and then I went on to get another.
I got one promotion and then chased the next.
On and on and on.
And finally when I became an entrepreneur and realized I was NEVER “done”, I gave myself permission to be happy where I was. Then ironically, I created success even faster than I knew was possible.
If you’re tempted to always be comparing where you are to where you want to be, let’s talk about how you can shift this.

The thing that’s ruining your results….

Is it just me or does it seem like everything in our lives and businesses just gets more and more complicated?
Picking our Internet provider, figuring out the latest social media platform, or navigating the endless opt-ins, food choices, etc. means we’re constantly bombarded with choices and decisions to make.
All of these things not only use up our time, but they use up our mental energy. When we use up too much mental energy making decisions we deplete our mental resources causing us to either make poor decisions or to avoid making decisions all together.
This might explain why we know what we SHOULD do, we might even know exactly HOW to do it, but we still don’t. For example, many people know that they should exercise, and they even know how to exercise. Then why do they find it so challenging to actually do it?
Decision fatigue is likely the hidden culprit.
Let’s dive in to learn how to overcome it so you can move from operating as the “manager” of your life and business to operating as the CEO.

If you want killer content you must do this…

Are you a slave to your inspiration in your biz??
Seriously, this is a PROBLEM for so many entrepreneurs.
We feel like we can only create, make things happen, etc. WHEN we’re feeling inspired and we feel like our inspiration is TOTALLY out of our hands.
But what if we actually took responsibility for that inspiration?
What if we made it our friend?
What if we cultivated and nurtured it like an important team member in our business?
Then we could create amazing content, put out awesome work and plan in a way that let us have strategy, inspiration AND flow.
Here’s how I do this in my business (and how I help my clients do the same):

How being motivated by more than money will help you grow your business

What motivates you in your business?
At the beginning of our business it’s normal to be primarily motivated by money (because you have to make money to make a difference.. am I right?), but we’re not necessarily bringing it in right away so we need something ELSE to motivate us as well.
Then a little while into our businesses we’re bringing in the money and it’s motivating us to make more, but we’re starting to get a little itch that we need to connect to something MORE than money to KEEP us motivated.
Finally, as we’ve increased our income, and are hitting our goals the money is still awesome, but it’s not our driving factor, and if more than money hasn’t previously motivated us it will be easy to burn out. We’re also in the position of having to keep a team motivated, and trading dollars for hours isn’t doing the trick. We have to not only keep ourselves motivated by more than money, but our team as well.
So what does that mean? It means that STARTING OUT being motivated by more than money is key to your progression, evolution, ability to make money, and ultimately your impact!
That’s EXACTLY why I invited Erica Gellerman to join me for a conversation on this topic!

My 3 Biggest Challenges In My 1st Year of Biz

My 1 year business anniversary is at the end of this month (I can’t remember the exact date, so that’s what we’re rolling with), and I’ve been thinking a lot about how to share about it and how to commemorate it.

I have had some big wins…

And I want to celebrate those…. but what I really want is to be real, raw, and honest with you about what it took to create those wins, and the pitfalls along the way. I know I truly have learned from others who have gone before me, and I want that opportunity to be available to all of you!

So I’m going to share my three biggest CHALLENGES I’ve experienced this year (in this business specifically – not my other) and how I’ve dealt with them, and how you can too.

How do you incorporate more of YOU into your business and messaging while still staying true to your brand?

The 3 Things I Did That Made My Biz Take Off!

As entrepreneurs, sometimes we try too hard to work on #allthethings, but we’re not necessarily focusing on the right things to grow our business. Today I’m sharing with you the 3 things that I focused on that allowed my biz to take off.
First, I got serious about mindset work.
Before I started my business I knew mindset work was important. I worked as a therapist, read all the books, and saw how my own confidence and ability to be positive impacted the results I created in my life. Yet, I didn’t PRACTICE it regularly. I had the knowledge but I wasn’t putting it to great use.
Can you identify with that? Knowing how important mindset work and self-care is but always making it last on your list?

Are You Asking The Right Questions In Your Business?

This week I want to talk to you about focusing on how we can give value, and asking the right questions in your business!
We’re used to asking questions like:
– How can I add 1,000 people to my list?
– How can I make 10K per month?
– How can I sign 6 new clients?
However, a tip I learned from the amazing Margaret Lynch that has transformed my business, is that instead of asking those questions I ask how I can give value commiserate with that. In other words:
– How can I give value to 1,000 new people?
– How can I give 10k worth of value per month?
– How can I give 6 new people a life + business changing experience?

Is Done Really Better Than Perfect?

Yes, Definitely!

This week I want to talk to you about a topic that has been coming up a ton lately with the women I coach. This is the idea that “done is better than perfect”. I want to talk about how to drop the need for perfection and just get moving anyway, which will make all the difference in your business, your content, and your success.
The ability to put content out and make decisions even when it doesn’t feel PERFECT also seems to be one of the things that really separates those that end up finding success + flow and those that end up just burning out. All too often we want to make sure EVERY move we make in our business is PERFECT, and it ends up causing us major stress, keeps us from moving forward, and keeps success + visibility just out of reach.
So let’s talk about how you can incorporate this into your business:

Transform Your Biz With Gratitude + Celebration

I’m sharing how it’s worked for me, and what actionable steps you can take right now!

Since it was Thanksgiving Week here in the U.S. I am going to be slightly cheesy and talk about the role of gratitude and celebrating in your business, which I am certain is one of the main components to consistent success in business.

Cultivating a mindset of gratitude is so crucial when you’re an entrepreneur. We get to choose how we see things in our business and we get to control what shows up in our business based on our level of gratitude for what we already have.
At the beginning of my business I offered an assessment and remember telling my husband how bummed I was that only 10 women signed up as I really thought more would be interested.
As soon as it came out of my mouth I realized how ridiculous it sounded, and how ungrateful I was being for the 10 women that WERE interested. As soon as I shifted my thinking to being grateful for the 10 women I GOT to talk to (instead of whining about the 15 that I wanted) I had a total transformation.

Do You Really Know Your Niche?

This week I want to talk to you about how niching down and getting clear on your ideal client is a way to see serious results in your biz.

We’re going to talk:

  • Why it’s so important
  • How it trips a lot of people up at the beginning, and what to do instead
  • Doing ideal client interviews in your business
  • How to infuse YOU into your content + writing

Niching down and choosing an ideal client is so important because speaking to a specific client about how you help them deal with a specific problem is so crucial to creating a profitable business and building that know, like, and trust factor.

How To Start Feeling Like You Have Worthwhile Content To Share

I want to talk about a mindset block that comes up a lot around content creation, and that is the feeling that you don’t have anything worthwhile to say. I often hear “I’d share and create content more, but I don’t have anything worthwhile to say”. Guess what? This is literally never true. We all have a unqiue story, outlook, knowledge, etc. We just have to get t past the mindset block and work on our worthiness! So what can you do? Here are my top five tips:

Freedom Is The New Black

Freedom is a huge theme in my life. It’s why I started my business. It’s why I’ve dedicated my life to help other women. It’s why I’m happy 98% of the day every day. In fact, feeling free is probably my top core desired feeling (see: Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte), and I make it a complete non-negotiable in my life. Yet, for a long time I didn’t feel free at all, and it really took a toll on my overall happiness and well-being. I had what should have been my “dream job” managing a $45 million/year non-profit but I felt like I was drowning all the time. I felt guilty every time I took a vacation, and usually spent the better part of that vacation checking my phone and answering emails. I knew I was meant for something more, but I had no idea what that was or what that felt like. I just knew there had to be more than the crazy commute, soul-sucking work place politics, and the feeling of never getting it all done.

The Weight of Perfection

A theme that has been coming up this week in several of my one-on-one client coaching sessions is the idea of perfection. As women entrepreneurs, or really just women in general, we often put these tremendous expectations on ourselves and no matter how much we accomplish we always feel like we fall short.

“I had a $10,000 week in my business, but I missed a date with a guy that had potential.”
“I spent time with my family and did some self-care, but I sent out my regular blog a day late.”
“I feel like I’m a good businesswoman but not always the best wife because I only make dinner for my husband every couple of weeks, and we don’t have sex all that often.”
“I have an amazing business idea and concept, but I know I’ll fail because I have no idea how to implement it.”

Why "I'll be happy when…" Is The Most Dangerous Thing You Can Say

I used to be the queen of “I’ll be happy when…” I’ll be happy when I get a promotion. I’ll be happy when I finish this degree. I’ll be happy when I lose 5 lbs. The list could go on forever, but guess what? I did all of those things, and I still wasn’t happy. I was confused, upset, and frustrated. I had to do a ton of soul-searching and get happy FIRST before any of those things could truly add any level of joy or feelings of success into my life.
I did a tremendous amount of work on my mindset in order to find my happiness on the inside, rather than on the outside. One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from James Allen when he says, “Circumstances do not make the man. They merely reveal him to himself.” That was exactly what was taking place in my life. My circumstances weren’t causing me to be unhappy, but my mindset was. My circumstances and unhappiness were simply revealing to me a mindset that was no longer serving me.Quote10
